___________ CAPTAIN COOKS ENDEAVOUR - A PHOTO ESSAY ____________

On the 3rd of November last year a replica of Captain James Cooks Endeavour visited Whangarei. The boat was open to the public so I took a ramble on board and took some photographs. As the old saying goes "A picture is worth a thousand words" I offer this as a photo essay.

Back in 2003 or 4 we were on a yacht mooring in Fowey when Endeavor turned up on the ship mooring adjacent us. We thought it was fantastic being so close until about 4.00 or 5.00 PM each day when they fired their cannon -clearly a blank but it's didn't half make a racket.

After that we went to the pub in the afternoons!! Was great to see the ship

Max that is by far the best excuse for spending the afternoon in a pub that I have heard in a long time!

Steve, she is an amazing ship with enough rope to stretch to the moon and back. The places Cook and his crew took that engineless old collier puts most modern sailors to shame.

Alden - hadn't thought of it like that but you reminded me of a few days spent with my friend Stuart in Dartmouth finding excuses to go to the pub every afternoon, we were waiting for a gale to pass through - more than a few great pubs there as well
