Quite right Paul, I've become a bit of a Northland whimp when it comes to the cold.

A couple of years ago a large iceberg was seen off Dunedin, this year with the shortest day of the year still a month away I am thinking about thermal underwear - and everyone is talking about global warming??

Positively balmy here in Auckland today,I haven't moved past two layers yet,but as they say...Winter Draws On! ;-)

The good thing about the current weather is that with two low pressure systems approaching from the Tasman Sea I am guaranteed a good 20+ knots for the next winter series race this coming weekend (I think I'll wear my wet suit!).

We were in Iceland in July 2013, some "summer" days it hit 5 degrees C and as windy as your picture. The house we were staying in had fantastic views of the fiord which was quite protected but we never once saw anyone sailing or kayaking. Iceland is well named, fantastic country, lovely people but not exactly the best sailing location

Max, it sounds like a great place for your kind of particular visit - not a great place for sailing - even that famous old high latitude seaman H.W. Tilman of 'Mischief' et al fame made it anything but a port of call on the way to another destination (Mainly Greenland).

To tease you: we have also a north easterly but 27 degree C. Summer is on its way. I do a lot of biking. Could it be like that in early December in Whangarei?

Ben, 27 degrees sounds very summery. I think we do get a few days in December at that temperature - you will just have to come and have a holiday here in December to find out :>)
