The Starling Project - Part 37

The last undercoat has been sanded with 'wet 'n' dry' sandpaper. This worked well and gave a smooth surface for painting.

This is the first of two finishing coats of paint. I will give this a light sand before the final coat.

I have spent a lot of time on the centerboard, rudder blade and rudder stock. The board and blade have just had their first coat of varnish.

A beautiful restoration project on the hull and foils. What about the spars? Do you have new sails?

Thank you Dan for your generous comment. Your question about the spars and sails prompted me to take a look for the sail. The mast and boom are aluminum and at a casual glance seem to be in good condition. I had to search hard for the sail and then found I had two! I had forgotten! One is certainly a 'cruising' sail (bit rough around the edges), the other is in good condition and will be my racing sail LOL - A 64 year old taking racing seriously in a small centerboarder seems slightly preposterous, but I will take it seriously (The preposterous bit that is).
